TEACHER LICENSURE IN INTEGRATED LANGUAGE ARTS--
ADOLESCENT / YOUNG ADULT EDUCATION:  GRADES 7-12

Baldwin-Wallace College Requirements:

Prescribed courses as listed for this license represent the B-W "Model Program" for license.  Substitutions in the model program may be approved only by the Chairman, Division of Education, Baldwin-Wallace College.

II.  Studies in the literary traditions (choose two, 8 hours total)

III.  Advanced studies in English (choose five, 17-20 hours total)*
       Prerequisite: 6 hours of literature at the 100 or 200 level

* Students who have 6 hours of the ENG 131, 132, 133 sequence may count ENG 305, 306, 307 toward the 17-20 hours required in this section. 

Because they designate inclusive categories rather than individual courses, ENG 316, 328, 335, 336 may be repeated when  they cover different material.  For example, ENG 328 Chaucer, ENG 328 Shakespeare, ENG 336 Romance as Genre, ENG 335 Oriental Literature, and ENG 336 American Literature and the Civil War would satisfy the "Advanced studies in English" requirement as would many other combinations of courses.

IV.  Writing (6 hours total)

ENG 131         3        Workshop in Exposition & Argument

This course is required of all majors except those who have been exempted from the core curriculum writing requirement through ACT or SAT language scores.  Students who have been exempted from ENG 131 because of their ACT or SAT score must take ENG 305 to satisfy the writing requirement plus the following additional hours in writing to make up the total hours required for the major.

Students planning graduate study are advised to take at least three hours in advanced writing.
