Dr. Lisa Henderson

Dr. Lisa Henderson has been employed at Baldwin-Wallace College since 1992, when she was hired as an Assistant Professor of Education.  In 1998, she was tenured and promoted to Associate Professor of Education.  Then, in 2004, she was promoted to full professor.  She teaches courses in the Division of Education in the areas of early childhood education and literacy, and also serves the college as Coordinator of the Early Childhood Education Program.  She is currently the Director of Initial Licensure Programs.

A graduate of the University of Montevallo in Alabama, Dr. Henderson has a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. Her Ph.D. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham is in the area of Early Childhood Education and Development.

Dr. Henderson is active in both national and state organizations, and is currently a member of the National Association of Young Children, the Ohio Association for the Education of Young Children and the Ohio Higher Education Consortium for Early Childhood Education.  In addition, she is a board member of the College Reading Association, a member of Business Volunteers Unlimited, and a member of the board of trustees for Cleveland Reads.

According to her teacher education students, Dr. Henderson’s primary strengths as a teacher include making her classes interesting and her enthusiasm, level of knowledge and organizational skills.  Dr. Henderson frequently states, “I am to help students experience the world more richly, beyond the world of textbooks and inert facts, guiding and supporting them towards becoming reflective practitioners, collaborative thinkers, effective communicators, and persons who appreciate diverse subject matter.”
