 B-W's Buckhorn Chair in Economics Speaker

Outspoken Banking Insider to Speak at B-W

Walker F. Todd, an outspoken banking insider who raised an early red flag about the oversight of dubious lending practices and the threat to U.S. taxpayers, will make an appearance at Baldwin-Wallace College on Wednesday, October 26 at 8 p.m. Todd's lecture, made possible by B-W's Buckhorn Chair in Economics, is titled "The U.S. Financial Crisis: Causes and Cures" and will take place in the Quarry Room, Strosacker Hall. His talk is free and open to the public.

 Faculty Spotlight

Professor Dennis Miller has been appointed to the endowed Buckhorn Chair in Economics formerly held by Professor Robert Ebert. During the past academic year he facilitated three gatherings:

A classroom visitation by former student and BWC graduate, Wilfried Nonguierma, who worked for the African Development Bank in Tunisia summer 2010 and recently received his M.A. degree in Development/Financial Economics at Brandeis University.

A community invited panel discussion on “Revolutionary Change in the Middle East and North Africa: Why, How and Where to Now?” with B-W Professors Gesink, Coble, and Krutky; instructor and visiting Fulbright Scholar, Hanan Mohamed; and former student Wilfried Nonguierma in February 22, 2011.

A community presentation by internationally renowned attorney, Thomas Lauria, who represented the Chrysler bondholders and whose presentation was, “Done Wrong: The U.S. Government’s Restructuring of GM and Chrysler and Its Undermining of the Rule of Law in America,” in April 19, 2011.

Professor Xudong Chen has a manuscript forthcoming in the Southwestern Journal of Economics entitled “Environmental Assistance, Club Membership and Transboundary Pollution” (with L. Noiset as coauthor).

Professor Lewis Sage served as a panel member on two student-organized symposia, "Is the Recession Over?" (11/3/10) and "The Future of Social Security" (3/23/11).

Ms. Melissa A. Grignon, a senior Mathematical Economics major, won the 2010-2011 Pavsek Award for Excellence in Economics with her paper titled “Geographic Distribution of Physicians and the Effects on Supply.”
