Five Strategies for Leading Turbulent Times

Lok for new dates
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.; $349;  Baldwin-Wallace, Berea
Instructor: Charleyse Pratt

During tough times we as individuals, and as leaders are tested.  The practices that have made us successful in the past, may not have the same results today.  Just as we winterize our home to adjust to the change in seasons, we as leaders also need to adjust our behaviors to the current economic season that has come upon our world.  The challenge is, most of us have not experienced the extremes of this season in the past.

Attend this unique program that brings together five leaders and the practical experiences they share.  This is not a traditional class.  You will not learn about concepts that are successful, you will hear about experiences, lessons, and recommendations to help each of us lead in these turbulent times.  Topics include leading through the processes of organizational changes including workforce reductions, handling new tests of integrity, managing multiple roles, and more.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn important planning strategies and ways to structure daily activities that will help you live through and survive the dissonance of change and related stress
  • Learn important strategies to motivate your workforce to continue performing at high levels during turbulent times to sustain a competitive advantage in the marketplace
  • Learn appreciative strategies for leading in the future tense through re-visioning and revising mission and goals.
  • Network with other leaders and professionals and learn from the experiences of others

Target Audience: This highly interactive program is best suited for mid-level and senior-level managers, human resources professionals, and others who are charged with leadership, management, and high level decision-making in the organization.

Course Outline:

  • Introduction of Panel Guests (4-5) Key Leaders from various industries, profit and not-for profit.  Each panelist will present a different leadership strategy along with evidence to support its effectiveness (20 minutes each).  Presentations will be followed by a general open discussion with time for questions and answers from participants.
  • Interactive session: Participants will spend one hour with the panel member of their choice.  This time will be used to inquire more deeply about the strategy presented in the morning session and discuss its use in various organizational settings.  Participants will be encouraged to share their experiences and collective knowledge on the subject.
  • Summary session: Participants will reconvene in a large group for discussion and networking about strategies.  Key learning from the morning and afternoon sessions will be captured.
