All incoming Baldwin-Wallace students are scheduled to arrive on campus on the morning of Thursday, August 21; new Conservatory students will participate in a variety of music-specific activities as well as the College events. Thursday, August 21, 2008
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - All new residential Conservatory Students move into their assigned residence hall rooms.
2:00 – 3:30 p.m. – Check – In, Opening Session, Class Picture: See www.bw.edu/stulife/studaff/departments/orientation for more information.
3:30 – 5:00 p.m. - All new Conservatory students will assemble in Gamble auditorium in the Kulas Musical Arts Building to meet with the Conservatory faculty. Attendance is mandatory.
5:00 p.m. - There will be a picnic for all new Conservatory students (families are welcome) on the Merner-Pfeiffer lawn.
After the picnic - Students without audition or placement appointments and families are invited to stay for an informal conversation and Q & A session with Conservatory faculty, staff, returning students and their families.
6:30 – 8:00 p.m. - Piano placement exams will be administered in Kulas 203 and 303 for those students who have not yet taken the test and for those students who wish to be re-evaluated after summer study. A prepared piece is required, but memorization is not necessary. The exam takes approximately 10 minutes.
7:00 p.m. - Ensemble auditions will begin for wind, brass, and percussion players (Kulas 209) and singers (Kulas Chamber Hall). String auditions will occur during the first week of the fall semester. All entering music students are required to audition for ensemble placement and should be prepared to present a solo piece. There may be sight reading (materials will be provided), and orchestra candidates will be expected to play excerpts from the music that has been sent out during the summer. An accompanist is provided for choral auditions. Please sign up for an audition time outside the appropriate room. 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. – Choir Gown Fittings will take place in the Ladies’ Lounge off of the Kulas main lobby. All female choristers are required to purchase the uniform concert gown.
7:00 – 9:00 p.m. – Music Theory placement exams will be administered in the MIDI lab in the basement of Merner-Pfeiffer Hall for those students who did not take the exam during the summer. The exam takes 45 minutes to an hour.

9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon – Ensemble auditions continue. MIDI lab remains open for Music Theory Placement exams; Advanced Placement Music Theory exam also available.
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon - Aural skills placement exams will be administered in Merner-Pfeiffer rooms 201, 305, 309, and Kulas 303. All students must take this 4-minute exam.
9:00, 10:00, and 11:00 a.m. – The Jones Music Library will be conducting brief tours of the library facilities.
9:30, 10:15 and 11:00 a.m. – Training sessions on Blackboard®, the College’s academic support software system, will be presented in Kulas 112. Attendance is required at one of these three sessions.
12:00 noon – lunch on your own.
