The Weagraff Studio at BW: a 10-year celebration

This year's recital at BW was a special treat as I was joined by three of my wonderful alumni in performance: Courtney Becker-Howell ('06), Kaci Korn ('10) and Jessica Waddle ('11).  The program included excerpts from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte and Le nozze di Figaro, Verdi's La Traviata, and songs by Brahms and Pasatieri.  We were once again accompanied by the incomparable Denella Sing.

June 20-24, 2011
Musical Theater Workshops at the Academy Theater in Meadville, PA

Getting young people involved in music and theater is a passion of mine. There are so many benefits to be gained from being on stage and exploring the world of music. Whether in dedicated pursuit of a career or just having fun, everyone can learn something about the culture of theater and about themselves from being on the stage or behind the scenes. This year we added another level of participation. First year students worked on technique and scenes. Second year students had scenes specifically chosen to challenge their natural inclinations. A few third year students were invited back as assistant instructors/directors. It was a remarkable week of education, fun, and theater.

Musical Theater Workshop at the Academy Theater, Meadville, PA

Faculty recital with Denella Sing, pianist

"Songs My Teacher Taught Me." This recital revisited works that I sang as a student with George Vassos or Lorna Haywood. It also featured songs that I have enjoyed teaching to my own students. The program included works by Handel, Bellini, Ravel, Wolf, and more.

June 29-July 3, 2009
Musical Theater Workshop at The Academy Theater in Meadville, PA

This week-long workshop will expose young singer/actors to many of the tools of the trade. We'll explore Stanislavsky and Wesley Balk acting methods, acting a song, straight theater scenes, and simple stage violence over the course of the week. The program will conclude with an informal presentation of our workshop scenes. In conjunction with this program, I'll be joining the Academy Players as "Emile DeBeque" in their production of South Pacific.

"The Air I Breathe" at The Academy Theater in Meadville, PA

This summer I'll be presenting a week-long musical theater workshop in Meadville, PA near my hometown of Saegertown. As part of that effort, I'll be reprising my BW recital from last year as a kick-off event. This recital, entitled, "The Air I Breathe" is composed of songs from nearly every era of musical theater strung together to tell the semi-autobiographical story of a young man facing the rigors of a career in musical theater and raising a family. It was conceived as a tribute to our musical theater majors and contains every element that is required of them in their own senior recitals. I'm delighted that my BW colleagues Dr. Joanne Uniatowski and Nancy Maier will be working with me once again as we bring this recital back to life.

March 14, 2009
Judge in the Miss Tri-County PA pageant

Being a judge for a Miss America preliminary pageant was a new experience, but one that I would gladly repeat. Meeting these exceptional young ladies was very impressive. There are some excellent future leaders involved in this system.
