I tend to be curious and that gets me involved in what probably ends up being too many volunteer/extra-curricular activities. Here are a few of the things I have spent time on.
Cleveland Orchestra: I've been on the Orchestra Committee, which serves as the liaison between our musicians and the management and the musicians union. I served as the Cleveland Orchestra delegate to ICSOM, the orchestra conference of the musicians' union and on ICSOM's Governing Board.
One of the most rewarding things I've done was to participate in the Orchestra Forum sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. I ended up being very involved with a smaller task force and co-wrote and presented its final report.
Credit Union: A credit union is like a co-operative bank that is owned the people who use it. We have one in Cleveland that is dedicated to serving the arts and entertainment community. We're trying to broaden our reach in the arts community. I currently serve as President.
Education: I'm on the board of a small community school of the arts located in the Slavic Village neighborhood of Cleveland, and I've just joined the board of The Lyceum - the school my eldest daughter attends. (Be sure to listen to them sing.)
My Education: I would love to take a year and go back to school just to study and write. (I love the orchestra and I wouldn't quit, just take a year off.) It's just not going to happen, so I content myself with adding to my practical skills with an occasional course at BW.
