How to Apply & Audition for CSI
In order to be considered for participation in BW: CSI, applicants must submit:
- Completed application
- Recorded audition
- Musical Experiences summary
- $200 deposit
All items must be submitted by April 1, 2013.
Auditions
Auditions are required for all Conservatory Summer Intensive applicants.* The audition should consist of two pieces in contrasting styles. It is preferred that auditions be uploaded at http://digitalaudition.bw.edu while auditions may be submitted on CD or DVD with the application. Piano and voice applicants are strongly encouraged to submit video auditions. All materials must be received, with the application and $200 deposit, by April 1, 2013.
If a student is accepted, the submitted audition will be used for placement with a private lesson teacher. Students should choose material they know well and enjoy playing or singing. Doing the most difficult piece does not always showcase the students' abilities to their best advantage. Conversely, picking material that is overly simple will work against a student because it is difficult to gauge his or her playing ability accurately. Consultation with one's private lesson teacher is always a wise move when determining audition material! Always remember, those listening to your audition are listening for potential not perfection.
In lieu of an uploaded or recorded audition, live on-campus auditions will be held at BW's Boesel Musical Arts Center each Saturday in March of 2013 from 10 am to noon. We must have your completed application and $200 deposit prior to the audition. Click here to sign-up for an audition date. Contact Caroline Arendec at 440-826-8068 or carendec@bw.edu with any questions.

Curriculum Placement
Theory Placement: All CSI students will take a brief music theory placement exam on Registration Day, the first Sunday of the Intensive. Results are used to place students at the instructional level best suited to their current abilities and backgrounds.
Ensemble Placements: All students will have a scheduled audition on Registration Day. Ensemble directors, chamber music coaches and private lesson teachers hear all auditions and place students according to playing ability. All students should bring a prepared piece for auditions, including vocalists.
