Art Song Festival

George Vassos, Founder and Artistic Director, received Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Westminster Choir College, where he studied with John Finley Williamson, Winifred Cecil, Marie Kraft, and Maria Malpi, and coached with Gerard Souzay and Pierre Bernac. He is the former head of CIM's voice department and a former faculty member at Hiram College. He toured the U.S. with the Westminster Choir as a tenor soloist and sang with the New York Philharmonic under Bruno Walter, Dimitri Mitropoulos, and Guido Cantelli. Mr. Vassos has made appearances as a solo recitalist, and on NBC television, New York. He toured the Orient and Army and Navy hospitals with the American Male Chorus as accompanist and assistant conductor. He has appeared with The Cleveland Orchestra with conductors Louis Lane and Robert Shaw and with the Boston Pops. He also sang with the Lake Erie Opera. He sits on the National Advisory Board of the Santa Fe Opera and is a founding board member of Lyric Opera Cleveland. Additionally, he is artistic director and founder of the Art Song Festival. He was appointed to the CIM faculty in 1956.
