Chemistry Major

In Her Own Words…

During my four years at Baldwin Wallace University, majoring in Chemistry, I was a Chemistry tutor, lab assistant for General and Organic Chemistries and Quantitative Analysis, and I helped out in the Physics and Biology departments. I was involved and a leader in many organizations during my four years: Students for Fair Trade, American Chemical Society, Pre-Medical Society, and the B-W Dance Team, where I was captain my senior year. My senior research project was conducted under the guidance and expertise of Dr. Ray Shively, where I integrated “green” chemistry by synthesizing biodegradable organic solvents and tested my products on the crustacean, Daphnia magna. The title of my research was The Synthesis and Aquatic Toxicity Screening of Ionic Liquids Containing Hydroxylated Side Chains.

I was always interested in the medical field while at BW. During my senior year, I decided to apply to a nursing program. After fifteen months of nursing school, I am now proudly a Registered Nurse working for University Hospitals, Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I cannot be more pleased with my education at Baldwin Wallace and will forever be a yellow jacket!
