Faculty mentoring and hands-on research opportunities help BW chemistry majors achieve success while here and upon graduation.

BW Chemistry Grad Success

In the past 5 years, 94% of the chemistry graduates are either employed in their field or attending graduate or professional school. The majority of students attending graduate school are receiving free tuition and a full stipend to cover all living expenses while earning a Ph.D.

Small class sizes, individual attention, and laboratory and research opportunities that parallel those of graduate school students make our chemistry program ideal for career preparation and advanced studies.

Strong Academics

Whether your career goals include employment immediately upon graduation or advanced studies at a medical, professional or graduate school, our chemistry program is rigorous and real world focused.

Advanced Research Experiences

Working one-on-one with a faculty mentor, you can delve into complex research comparable to graduate-level study. Our chemistry labs are spacious, safety focused and incorporate specialized high-tech instruments and equipment.

Presenting work at professional conferences, having papers published and partnering with local companies to do research are some of the many successes our students have experienced. Over the years, BW chemistry students have earned coveted national summer research positions with major medical centers, corporations and academic institutions.

Our chemistry program is approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS).  Students interested in pursuing an intensive program of study can opt for the ACS certified major, which requires additional coursework beyond that needed for completion of a BW chemistry major.

Chemistry is a versatile major that is in demand.  It offers solid career opportunities as evidenced by our chemistry alumni employed in the areas of:

  • Scientific Research & Development
  • Pharmaceutical Sales
  • Forensic Chemistry
  • Pharmacology
  • Science Teacher
  • Medical and Dental Health Care
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Health Care Technicians
