International and Intercultural Film: A Foreign Aesthetic?

Description
Film and Television are two of the most important and influential cultural determinants of the last century. In these courses we will analyze television and the motion picture as an art form and a medium of cultural communication from their beginnings to the present day. In "Film and Culture" a variety of examples showing significant artistic development will be viewed and discussed in order to establish criteria for evaluating and setting of standards for these two media.  In “Film Genres: International & Intercultural Film: A Foreign Aesthetic?” we will examine the culture and histories of our and other countries by using films as artifacts. Several directors' personal vision, time in history and artistic sensibilities will be examined through the context of their work. History and criticism will be emphasized as well as the literature and practical techniques of criticism.
