Carmel Living/Learning Center

Be Curious: People with similar academic interests and goals.

The Living Learning Experience is an exciting academic and living opportunity for you which allows you to live with other students who share similar academic goals.  You will live together and learn together in classrooms housed in the residence hall (only your Living Learning courses will be held in the residence halls).  This environment results in a vibrant sense of community and supports academic success for students in this program.

Be Real: Connect in class and out of class learning.

Most courses taught in the Living Learning Experience include a variety of out of class learning opportunties from service projects to field trips throughout Cleveland as well as abroad. You may have the opportunity to travel to Detroit to visit the Henry Ford Museum and tour an automobile plant, visit New York and take in a musical or explore the Metropolitan Museum, help in local hunger centers and social agencies, or travel to London!

Be Successful:  Surrounded by support.

Because you will live with other students who are also enrolled in the Living Learning courses, you are supported by your peers both academically and socially.  The faculty teaching Living Learning courses adapt the teaching structure for the Living Learning Center environment to encourage a strong student-faculty relationship aimed at helping you reach your full academic potential.

Be Connected: An experience greater than you ever hoped for.

Living and learning in the same space will help you develop relationships with peers and faculty that are supportive, meaningful, and FUN. Here's what current students have to say about their Living Learning experience...

"Carmel is a really nice learning environment where everyone can walk into class in pajamas with their blankets and learn something comfortably.  Also, the many lounges and classrooms in Carmel make Carmel a good place to study.  I love being an RA in the building because of the residents.   Residents of Carmel are fun, but still want to study... which is why we are at school in the first place.  Being an RA in Carmel is made easier because of the wonderful staff and cohesive living environment."

--Jenny Jamison, Class of 2009, Major in Biology and Chemistry, Minor in Political Science

"I think it's great how Carmel gives freshman the opportunity to adjust much differently and more in-depth than they would if living with only other freshman of their same gender.  I love getting to watch them all coexist and find themselves through their interactions with the rest of the floor."

--Laura Meyer, Class of 2009, Major in Music Performance

"I like living in Carmel because of the community of students who live right around you.  I can walk out into the hallway and find someone to study with, or play Nintendo with.  No matter what, you can always find someoned to do something with... even if it is 3:00AM!"

--Kristina Dodge, Class of 2009, Major in Religious Studies, Minor in Sociology
