William Brake

William Brake brings over 25 years of manufacturing and innovation experience to Baldwin Wallace.  Most recently, Mr. Brake served a Executive Vice President – Global Metallics at Cliffs Natural Resources.  While at Cliffs, he also served on the Executive Leadership Team, as Chief Technical Officer, and Chairman of Renewafuel – an innovative biomass fuel manufacturer.

Prior to joining Cliffs, Mr. Brake was Executive Vice President of Mittal Steel USA with full operating responsibility for all of Mittal’s domestic steel operations.  In this role he oversaw the largest consolidation in the nation’s history, bringing together 14 plants in 9 states with over $14 billion in annual sales.

Mr. Brake began his career at LTV Steel and, following its acquisition by International Steel Group led the restart of the Cleveland, Ohio facilities and became the Vice President and General Manager of the plant.

In addition to his corporate and community activities, Mr. Brake has had a long career as a local entrepreneur.  His small business experience includes a non-profit Montessori preschool, a music store, a professional audio company and, currently, a cake and candy supply company.

Mr. Brake is a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, and formerly was co-chair of the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering and an MBA, both from Case Western Reserve University.   He is currently on the Board of the Great Lake Science Center and WIRE-Net.
