MAEd - Leadership in Higher Education

Cindy Ahonen
2011 LHE graduate

I am in a PhD program at Indiana University and work as a Project Associate for the Center for Postsecondary Research, working on the NSSE at Indiana University.
While my research interests are still developing, they include the student experience, institutional differentiation, assessment and accountability in higher education.
The LHE program gave me opportunities to actively shape and mold experiences, and the ability to create and innovate in graduate internships.
My advice for LHE students:  Network from day 1 with people across campus.  Build relationships with faculty and staff that are similar to you or have similar interests, or even are really different.  It's all about exposure and creating opportunities for Chaos Theory to manifest.  Also, do your practicum off campus, or at least in a different area than your two internships.  Diversity of experience introduces you to different persons and work environments which will help make you more marketable.

Answering a Growing Demand for
Higher Education Leaders

Research on college student success, along with the increasingly competitive enrollment and accountability climate for higher education, point to the benefits of integrating academic and student affairs practice in support of student retention and positive graduation rates. Professionals who build successful careers in college and university administration know the impact and influence they have in recruiting and retaining students, and in helping each student realize his or her full potential.  B-W’s distinctive LHE program recognizes this need, and develops transformative leaders who answer this call.

Career Preparation for Complex Higher Education Environments

This program is designed for candidates from a variety of backgrounds; they may be recent college graduates, working professionals in higher education, and degreed individuals seeking a career transition to higher education.
